Buffalo Springfield is formed after a chance meeting on Sunset Boulevard. Within a week, the band makes it’s first public appearance. They quickly secure a residency as the house band at the Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip. While their Whisky residency becomes legendary, the Springfield’s career is slow to take off nationally. They remain close to home until the end of the year.

The Buffalo Springfield’s third single, ‘For What It’s Worth,’ goes Top Ten early in the year and for a brief time, they are stars. Unfortunately, they are unable to find a followup single that can match it. They also have trouble hanging on to group members as both Bruce Palmer and Neil Young depart during the year. Ken Koblun and Jim Fielder filled in on bass and Doug Hastings replaced Young on lead guitar. Both return but valuable time was lost without them and their replacements didn’t make the grade.
