Concert Memories
I attended that concert in Assembly Hall; at the time I was a sophomore at Bradley U. in Peoria about 90 miles up I-74. I rode there w/ a usual cast of characters–pot heads, drunks, etc.–and that we arrived safely and in time for the concert still amazes me. NGDB opened for Poco–kind of a reversal of fortunes from ’68–and were excellent, putting Poco in a bad spot as half the audience (quite a bit larger than the announced attendance, as security was very lax) came to see the Dirt Band and were winding down.
As luck would have it, Poco also nailed their performances–Richie’s solo on Bad Weather was spot on, the vocals were tight, and Rusty was a maniac on Good Feelin’ to Know–and I, as a fan of both bands, got more than my money’s worth. Too bad the crowd didn’t fully appreciate what they had witnessed.
