Jack Sundrud leaves the Backstreet Journal in Thief River Falls, MN and joins the Benson Obermyer Fruitstand Band in nearby Bemidji. The band also includes Dan Lund, his wife Karen, John Collins, and Steve Lundquist. Upon Sundrud’s arrival, they rename the band Podipto.
1970
Podipto records their first and only album in two sessions in Chicago. Produced by Elliott Abbott and Budd Carr, the eponymous album is released on GRT Records. But the album doesn’t sell. However, Podipto works steadily and opens for nationally known acts for the next couple of years.
