1965

Boenzee Cryque was formed by Joe Neddo, Sam Bush, Bill Delugt, Dan Nash, Terry Jones and Tad Collier. This six-man group was soon settled in as the house band for the Rug-ged Room in Denver after the Moonrakers ended their successful residency there.

1967

The Boenzee Cryque travel to Los Angeles early in the year to record with Frank Slay. They record sufficient tracks to release a couple of singles. The first was a Beau Brummells’ cover ‘Still in Love With You Baby’/ ‘Sky Gone Gray’ which made it to #1 on KIMN charts. UNI Records purchases the master in April and re-releases the single. Jensen departs shortly after the sessions. The final iteration of Boenzee Cryque adds Malcolm Mitchell to the lineup to replace Jansen and focuses more on country-rock styled after the Buffalo Springfield. During the summer, they actually get to open for them when the Springfield passes through town. In July, Boenzee Cryque releases a second single ‘Watch the Time’/ ‘You Won’t Believe It’s True’ that didn’t perform as well locally. Dan Nash left shortly after the release bringing the band down to a quartet.

1968

The Boenzee Cryque disbands early in the year. Rusty is called to California by friend Miles Thomas. On March 9, he participates in a recording session with Richie Furay and Jim Messina of Buffalo Springfield for the track ‘Kind Woman.’ After the session, the pair invite him to join a band with them. It begins Young’s odyssey with the band Poco that lasts for the bulk of his professional career. Rusty moves to Los Angeles after the last Boenzee Cryque show. See the Poco pages for Rusty’s time with Poco.

After signing with RCA Records and putting together and album, Four Wheel Drive tours briefly, opening for Patrick Simmon’s other band, the Doobie Brothers. John Cowan also plays bass with both bands on the tour. Their album from 1992 has recently been released on iTunes.

1995

After spending nearly a year and a half working on material for a new album project with the newly-dubbed Sky Kings, Rusty’s band goes out on the road to promote what was to be their first album for Warner Brothers. Fran Breen is added on drums and Peter Hyrka on mandolin, fiddle, and keyboards. In September Rusty announces that Poco is finished after a show in Deadwood, South Dakota. During the recording, Patrick Simmons leaves to pursue a better opportunity with his old band, the Doobie Brothers. Although the label eventually releases three singles, it pulls back the album from release.
