After a couple of missed opportunities, I finally got to see Poco again. Knowing that the second show had the opportunity to be a longer show, that’s what I went for. Luckily they still went on as most of the house were people who stayed from the first show. It was an interesting set from my perspective. Very heavy on the LEGEND album but also four or five from the GHOST TOWN album too. Charlie Harrison broke a bass string very early in the set. Overall, I thought the band was very upbeat and seemed to enjoy themselves. I thought it was great to see them in a club setting. I was busy scratching down the set list in the dark on a cocktail napkin and as I was giving the band a standing O to bring them out for the encore, the waitress cleaned the table, including my napkin. After a mind-blowing selection for the encore (‘On the Way Home!), the waitress returned with the napkin asking if the writing was important. Needless to say, she earned herself an extra tip.

I, too, was at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco in December 1982. I went to the second show. I remember I had to get a ride down there early and poked around downtown before the second show started. At the time, I had NO IDEA that there were two shows that night. I ran out of things to do downtown and headed up to the club well before the show started (or so I thought) and heard the band playing from outside the club through the wall behind the stage. I stopped to listen, not recognizing who it was at first, but then I realized who I was hearing – Poco! Freaked , I ran to the door and asked if I had the show time wrong and was told that they were doing their first show, but that I could come in for the second one when this show was over. I kicked myself for not having paid attention and noticing that there was more than one show when I got my ticket. I could have seen them twice! All worked out well in the end, though. I remember really enjoying the show and being excited that I was right up front and slightly to the right with the band right in my face ! I had also brought my copy of Ghost Town in the hope that somehow I might get it signed. Before the second show started, I saw Rusty and Paul heading toward the stage -just walking through the seating area. I couldn’t believe it! I jumped up and asked them if they could sign my LP. They graciously agreed and even made small-talk with me for a minute, thanked me for coming out and for being a fan, then they disappeared somewhere until it was time for show #2 to start . I still have that signed LP! I don’t remember Charlie Harrison breaking a bass string, but it does ring a bell, but I definitely DO remember them closing with On The Way Home. I remember that it surprised me and that I thought their version of the song was the best I’d ever heard – certainly better than Richie’s version on The Last Time Around and Neil Young’s CSNY version on 4-Way Street.
